8 weeks old!

This handsome guy is 8 weeks old today.

It's hard to believe how fast the last 8 weeks have flown by.  He's grown so much.  We're starting to see some personality and he's starting to be much more aware.  We get wonderful smiles like this way more often.

We continue to get the looks of wonderment as he explores the world around him.

And we have some new habits, like the occasional thumbsucking with creative technique.

Our little man is awesome.  I'm back to work, so he spends his days with mommy as she tries to get some work done.  I miss him everyday and love seeing him when I get home.  I'm excited more and more to see what new development he has next, broken hearted when he's upset and I don't know why, and melted everytime he gives me that big smile.

1 Month!

It's hard to believe, but our little man is a month old!  It went by so fast.  He's starting to smile a little bit more when he's awake, which is heartbreaking in a good way every time.  It's going to be hard to go back to work in a couple weeks.

Xander is now starting to eat more from a bottle.  He took to it really well.  This means that daddy can give mommy a little more sleeping time at night.  He still gets up every few hours, but it seems to be getting a little better.

In the past couple weeks, he's had a few firsts.  We took our first walks with the dogs, hung out at the Memorial Union, and he slept through an entire practice of The Type!

Big, big boy

Xander went on his second road trip this past weekend down to Paddock Lake for Candice and Jared's wedding reception.  He got to meet almost all of his great aunts and uncles on the Spinler side as well as Auntie Candice and Uncle Jared and Uncle Aron and Auntie Vicki.  I think Candice might be fond of him already.

He also had his two week check up last week and he's a big boy.  He's already up to 10 lbs 4 oz!  Almost everywhere we go, people assume he's a couple months old.  He's in the 90th percentile for weight and 85th for length.  I looks like we better get pics of him in cute newborn onesies while we can, as he's probably not going to fit in them for much longer.

It's hard to believe it's already been three weeks since this little guy joined us.  I love him more and more everyday, more than I ever thought I could love anything.

On a different note, did you get your tickets to the baby gun show?

Busy week!

Xander had a busy week of meeting new people.  Dustin, Ava and Luca came over Sunday night. On Monday, he got to meet Grandma SuAnn, Mike, Brandon, Brittany, Nancy, Dan, Laura and Sierra.  Yesterday he got to meet all of daddy's coworkers and go on his first trip to the sushi restaurant.  Anjee was very happy to have some raw salmon again after not being able to during her pregnancy.

Tomorrow we head up north for Grandma SuAnn's graduation/birthday party.  He will get to meet Auntie Trisha as well as most of the rest of the Olkives side of the family.

Other than that, Anjee and I have really enjoyed spending time getting to know our handsome little man.   Sometimes he's so cute it's painful.  He's starting to sleep for longer stretches, but continues to be an eating machine.

Today I took a bunch of pictures for his announcements.  I won't show the announcement here, you'll have to wait to get one in the mail, but here are a few favorite photos.

Settling in at Home

Everything is going great so far at home. Xander has been pretty content, reserving his best screams for when he's hungry or when he has his diaper changed. His sleep schedule is a little erratic, but Anjee and I have been trading off sleep when we can. It's a little tough when Anjee is the only one that can feed him right now and that's all he wants to do.

Dite has now met him and is doing fine. She's a little freaked out still and just doesn't know what to do with herself when Xander's crying, but overall she seems to be taking to him okay. We also had his first check up with Dr. Pagel and he's perfectly healthy.

Some fun things about him:
- He has hairy ears.
- When he's hungry, he tries nursing whatever is in front of him, including my nose today.
- When he's about to nurse, he furrows his brow, opens his mouth, and shakes his head around looking for a boob. We call this "shark face".

We looked up the meaning of his name today and it means "defender of men".  I like the sound of that.
